People's University of China (PUC), abbreviated as "NPC", is a university directly under the Ministry of Education (MOE), which was established by the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipality.

The predecessor of the school was the Shaanbei Public School established in 1937, and later the North China Union University and North China University. December 16, 1949, the State Council of the Central People's Government passed the Decision on the Establishment of the Renmin University of China. October 3, 1950, the merger and formation of the North China University as the basis of the On October 3, 1950, the People's University of China, formed on the basis of the merger of North China University, was officially opened, becoming the first new type of formal university founded by the new China.

In 1954, it was recognized as a comprehensive university focusing on social sciences and one of the first national key universities; in 1960, it was recognized as a comprehensive national key university; and in 2017, it was selected as one of the country's "double first-class" construction list.

As of April 2021, the university has 35 colleges, with additional departments of Physical Education, School of Continuing Education, and the Shenzhen Research Institute; 82 undergraduate majors; 21 postdoctoral mobile stations, 22 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, and 37 first-level master's degree authorization points

In 2016, the university won nine major projects of the National Social Science Foundation; ? obtained 45 projects of the National Social Science Foundation, including 8 key projects, 25 general projects, 12 youth projects, the total number of projects since 2003 for the 11th time ranked first in the list of Chinese colleges and universities; obtained 57 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the amount of funding is 32.212 million yuan.
