Huangpi

It was called Longgui Cave in the Tang and Song Dynasties and renamed Wucha Cave in the end of Yuan Dynasty. In the first year of Taichang in Ming Dynasty, it was originally named Zhongdongwei, and it was called "Huangpi Weibao" in Yongzheng period of Qing Dynasty. Because there is a vicious head built on the river, sulfur ore is mined in the upper reaches of the river, and the vicious head is yellow because of river water pollution, so it is called Huangpi.

During the Ming Dynasty, a Wei was built in Shanglan Pai, so it was named Wen Hewei because of the residents' Wen and He surname. The two surnames often argued over the name of the fair, and later moved the fair to this address and renamed it Yonghe, which meant that the two surnames were "forever harmonious".

Diaofang

600 years ago, there were shops and dyehouses owned by residents with the surname Diao and Gao, hence the name "Diao Gaopu" and later it was called "Diao Gangpu". After Gao moved out, people called the dyehouse "Diaofang", which is still in use today.

Xinbei

In the Ming Dynasty, a water-blocking dam was built with wooden stakes and stones on the river course in the northwest of the territory, hence the name "Xinbei".

Yetang

In the old days, there were several large ponds near Gongmen, Lida and Miwa, which were rich in lotus roots and covered with lotus leaves, so they were called "Lotus Leaf Pond" or "Leaf Pond" for short.

Longtian

In the early days, Dai, Long and Tian settled here, hence the name Dai Longtian. Dialect is called "Dalongtian" or "Longtian" for short.

Heshui

Because the Huangpi River and Luogang River meet here, it is named "Heshui".

Daping

According to historical records, more than 300 years ago, there was a 1 lawn near the market town, which was a racecourse for the Qing Dynasty to station troops for training, hence the name "Daping".

Luofu

In the Tang and Song Dynasties, it was called "Lihu Bay", and in the Yuan Dynasty, it was renamed "Daduwan". According to legend, Wen Tianxiang, the prime minister of the Southern Song Dynasty, and Zhang Yuanmo, the general, led the diligent king, and the defeat ended here. Zhang married the local Xiao surname, and the population became more and more prosperous. Villagers said that Zhang Xiao (homophonic) wanted a reed, and the mountain here looked like a floating reed, so it was called "floating" and pronounced "floating". In the fourth year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1372), thirteen capitals were established, and the headquarters was located under the banyan tree in the city.

Huang Huai

1978 separated from Huangpi. Because there is a big pagoda tree planted on Huangniping, which is under the jurisdiction of Huangpi, it is named "Huang Huai".

Gangbei

1962 was separated from Huangpi and merged into Huangpi in 20041February. Huangpi is divided into two sections for Jiulonggang (now Lingzhigang). Because it is located in the south of Jiulonggang, it is called "Gangbei".

Shima

Because there is a brown boulder in the territory, its shape is like a horse, so it is called "stone horse".

Libei

196 1 year was separated from Nibei and merged into Nibei in 20041February. Legend has it that 100 years ago, there was a stream near the market (the word "stream" in Xingning dialect means "drain"). People built a water pond in the stream to divert water and water, so it was named "Gepi".

Nibei

Hundreds of years ago, because Jiuzikeng drained into Ningjiang, it was built in a mud pit, hence the name, and was later written as "Nipi".

Xinxu

196 1 year was established by dividing parts of Shuikou and Nipi respectively. Legend has it that 150 years ago, there was no fair in China, and it was inconvenient for people to go to Nipi to go to the fair road, so trading places were gradually opened by the river, hence the name "Xinxu".

1949 When the farmers' associations were established in Pingxin and Jiucaikeng villages, they were named "Pingyang Farmers' Association" and later changed to "Pingyang" because there were many Yang surnames in Pingxin.

Xiabao

There are three small valleys below Shuikouwei, where thousands of people live on both sides, forming three villages, which are called upper, middle and lower castles respectively. 1962 in Shuikou, Zhongbao and Xiabao set up communes, which were named because they were located in Xiabao.

Appendix I: Origin of Some Place Names in Huang Huai

It is said that there were several small shops selling as much goods as possible on the west side of Huang Huai, and the villagers called the place "Xipu" or "Xibu".

Hecun Hecun, alias "Sanxi", is named after the confluence of Baolong, Huang Huai and Shuangxia rivers. Because Sanxi is surrounded by vast paddy fields and fertile soil, it is a high rice producing area in Huang Huai, so it is named Hecun.

Huangxi, also known as Huangshaxi, is named because there are many yellow sands in the small rivers in the village.

Baolong is called "Baolong" because of its special basin shape, like a "dragon", and rich in coal, iron, tungsten, copper and other minerals. Today it is divided into three villages: Baofeng, Shangbaolong (Lianxin) and Xiabaolong (Hongguang).

The new village belongs to the deep mountain area. At an altitude of 800 meters, the top of Zhangding (the mountain name, the actual height is 799 meters above sea level) stands at the northeast end, with a slightly lower narrow basin in the middle. People used to think it was a deserted land, so it was named "decadence". Later, it was developed and initially prospered, and it was renamed "Xincun".

Shuangxia was originally named "Shuangxi", which means 1 village where the furnace path and the double-headed brook meet. Because it is located under Shuangtou Village, it was renamed "Shuangxia".

Ssangyong was originally named "under the tall pine tree" and "double head". Therefore, there is a "Longtan" and it was renamed "Shuanglong".
