The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a regional intergovernmental financial development institution dedicated to promoting the economic and social development of developing members in Asia and the Pacific. Since 1999, ADB has particularly emphasized that poverty alleviation is its primary strategic goal. It is not affiliated with the United Nations, but was established under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific ([1] UNESCAP) and has close ties with the United Nations and its regional and specialized agencies.
