Strictly speaking, the design of Water Cube and Allianz Stadium is very different, but the materials used are ETFE membrane materials. In addition, there are some coincidences between them that I want to share with you.

The engineering consultant behind the Water Cube and Allianz Stadium is the same company Arup, but the Beijing Water Cube is dominated by Arup's branch in Australia. Speaking of the so-called Beijing Three Birds Building project, this engineering consulting company has to mention that the Bird's Nest-Beijing Olympic Stadium, Bird's Nest-Beijing National Grand Theatre, Bird's Nest-CCTV, the new site and the new terminal of Beijing Airport are all managed by the world-leading Arup. Another common feature of Water Cube and Allianz Stadium is that their roof structures were built by the same German engineering company. Interestingly, this engineering company has filed a bankruptcy application with the local German government when the Bird's Nest was built halfway, because the construction cost of the Bird's Nest roof project is much higher than expected, and the funds of the previous projects have not been recovered. In addition, the bank refused to lend, and finally had to go bankrupt. Fortunately, the timely delivery of Olympic venues has not been affected.
