In recent years, China's turmeric industry has developed rapidly, especially in Wudang Mountain area of Hubei Province. The planting of turmeric has completely changed from the call of the government to the spontaneous delivery of farmers. The area of turmeric has expanded rapidly, and processing enterprises have sprung up like mushrooms after rain, and the development momentum is unexpected. However, there are some outstanding problems in the process of developing turmeric industry in various places, which need to be solved urgently.

(1) The area is expanding too fast. Especially in 2002, the price of Dioscorea zingiberensis was less affected by the disaster due to the reduction of grain production and the weak market, but it was firm and the market was hot. Many farmers rushed to buy ginger varieties and plant Dioscorea zingiberensis. Driven by the expectation of high returns, many farmers even destroyed germinated wheat and rapeseed and planted turmeric on a large scale. In the case of disorderly expansion and rapid development in various places, the total planting area of Dioscorea zingiberensis is too large, which leads to oversupply of new products and poor market sales, which has become a heart disease for cadres and the masses.

(2) The problem of declining product content needs to be solved urgently. The content of diosgenin in Dioscorea zingiberensis was obviously decreased by a few farmers planting from other places with high yield and low ginger content, combined with long-term asexual reproduction, continuous cropping, increasing fertilizer application and early mining. Buying Dioscorea zingiberensis by content is an inevitable way to buy Dioscorea zingiberensis in the market. In this case, if we don't promote high-content varieties as soon as possible, it will eventually lead to a sharp drop in the price of ginger and heavy losses for farmers.

(3) High investment and high risk. At present, the capital investment per mu of Dioscorea zingiberensis is as high as 1000 yuan, and many farmers have made loans to invest. Once the sales of Dioscorea zingiberensis are poor or the price plummets, it will bring a disastrous blow to many farmers.

(4) The planting technology is not standardized. Random adjustment of ginger seeds, continuous cropping, variety degradation, partial application of chemical fertilizer, insufficient potassium fertilizer, unscientific and effective prevention and control of diseases, pests and weeds all directly affect the yield and content of Dioscorea zingiberensis, and ultimately affect the planting benefit of Dioscorea zingiberensis.

(5) Processing enterprises are seriously polluted. At present, almost all Dioscorea zingiberensis processing enterprises only extract saponin contained in Dioscorea zingiberensis, which not only has low product utilization rate, but more seriously, wastewater containing a lot of starch and other substances is directly discharged into rivers without treatment, resulting in serious water pollution in the downstream. However, due to the large investment and immature technology in the treatment of turmeric wastewater pollution, the problem of turmeric processing pollution has become a difficult problem in the development of turmeric industry. If it is not solved properly as soon as possible, it may ruin the whole industry.
