In May 1952, Shicang District was added, with jurisdiction over Shicang, Baibu, Hengzhang, Wubu, and Anmin Townships. In August 1952, Chengguan District was abolished, and Jiangnan, Jiangbei District and Xiping Town were established directly under the county. Set in Wangcun Township, it belongs to Jiangbei District. Xiping and Gushi towns established residents' committees with resident groups under their jurisdiction, which were renamed residential areas. At that time, Songyang County governed 15 directly affiliated townships, 2 districts and 10 townships.

On November 21, 1958, the organizational structure of Songyang County was revoked, and the jurisdiction of the original Songyang County was merged into Suichang County, and the administrative divisions remained unchanged. In April 1959, the original Hongqi, Hongguang, Pioneer, Red Star, and Satellite Communes were renamed Xiping, Gushi, Jingju, Shicang, and Yuyan Communes respectively, and the production brigade was renamed the management area.

In July 1961, the Zhuangmen management area was abolished and its jurisdiction was merged into Chishou and Gangsi management areas. The mouth management area is assigned to Yuyan Commune. In September, the district-level organizational system was restored; the original "management area" was renamed the People's Commune; the original production team was renamed the production brigade. In the same month, the Shicang People's Commune was abolished, and the Shicang, Wendong, and Hengzhang management areas under its jurisdiction were restructured into communes and merged into the Jingju District. In December, Yecun commune was divided into two communes: Yecun and Zhaitan.

In January 1962, the Shicang, Wendong and Hengzhang People’s Communes merged into Shicang People’s Commune directly under the county. In May 1985, Zhaitan Township was renamed Zhaitan Township, and Yuyan Township was removed and built into Yuyan Town. At that time, Songyang County governed 2 directly affiliated towns, 5 districts, 25 townships (towns), and 400 administrative villages.

Songyang originally had 27 townships under its jurisdiction, including 3 towns and 24 townships. After the towns were expanded and merged with townships, it was adjusted to 20 townships, including 5 towns, 14 townships and 1 ethnic township.

In 1998, the original Langyang Natural Village in Langshu Village, Sidu Township, was upgraded to an administrative village and placed under the jurisdiction of Wangsong Township. At that time, there were 401 administrative villages in Songyang County.
