At 0:00 am BST on August 27, the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League Draw and UEFA Awards Ceremony was held in Istanbul, Turkey, where UEFA presented the awards for last season's Champions League.
The best goalkeeper in last season's Champions League went to Champions League winner Chelsea's Eduard Mendy, the best defender to Champions League runner-up Manchester City's Ruben Diaz, the best midfielder to Champions League winner Chelsea's Kante, the best striker to last season's top scorer in the Champions League, Xherdan Harland (10 goals), and the best manager to Champions League winner Chelsea's manager Tuchel.
In addition, this year's UEFA President's Award went to Danish captain Kjaer and the Danish national team medical team, who were instrumental in saving Eriksen's life during the Euros.
The all-important UEFA Player of the Year award went to Chelsea's Italian international Jorginho. Last season, Jorginho made 43 appearances for Chelsea, scoring eight goals and assisting two times to help the team win the Champions League. He then went on to represent Italy in the Europa League as a starter and helped the team win the Delaunay Cup. With two of the most important trophies in a season under his belt, Jorginho's selection was well deserved.
