Born in March 1957 in Beijing.
He received his Ph.D. degrees in computer communications, computer applications and communication and electronic systems from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 1982, 1987 and 1990, respectively, and stayed on as a teacher at the university.
In 1992, he was honored by the State Council as a young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions at the national level, and received special government allowance.
In 1991 and 1993, he was promoted to associate professor and professor respectively, and was qualified as a doctoral supervisor in 1995.
In 1993, he became the deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Network and Switching Technology, and in 1997, he became the executive vice dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
Dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology from 1999 to 2006. He is a member of the Communications Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Information Industry, a director of the China Computer Society, and a deputy to the 13th and 14th National People's Congresses of Haidian District, Beijing.
Vice President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications from 2006 to 2015.
In 2009, he became the director of the Institute of Perception Technology and Industry of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Trusted Network Communications at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2013.

There are three other professors in the group (Su Sen, Zou Hua, and Zhan Shubo), and three other professors in the group (Su Sen, Zou Hua, and Zhan Shubo). The group consists of three professors (Su Sen, Zou Hua, and Zhan Shubo), two associate professors (Wang Hongshi and Zhang Haibin), and seven lecturers.
The group has set up joint laboratories with HP, SUN, BEA and other companies to expand the channels of external research cooperation.
