What does the data in the Shanghai Composite Index mean?
The Shanghai Composite Index is referred to as the "Shanghai Composite Index" for short, and its sample stocks are all listed stocks, including A shares and B shares, reflecting the changes in the prices of listed stocks on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. It was officially released on July 199 15.

The Shanghai Composite Index is weighted by the number of issued share capital of sample shares, and the calculation formula is: reporting period index = (total market value of constituent shares in the reporting period/base period) × base period index, where total market value = σ (stock price × number of issued shares). When calculating the Shanghai B-share index, the prices of B-shares in the constituent stocks are calculated in US dollars. When calculating other indexes, the prices of B shares in constituent stocks are converted into RMB at the applicable exchange rate (the central parity rate of RMB against USD in China Foreign Exchange Trading Center on the last trading day of each week).
