China's bachelor over 30 million, economics professor suggested: the adoption of polygamy, feasible?

China's feudal social system, which has lasted for thousands of years, can be said to be y rooted, especially in the status of men and women. In ancient times, men were favored over women, and boys were the inheritance of the family, and the daughters who married out were someone else's family. Until today, this kind of thinking, although it has been greatly weakened, in some rural areas there is still the phenomenon of preference for men over women, which has led to an imbalance in the proportion of men and women in the birth of the problem.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that as of 2019, the total population of mainland China exceeded 1.4 billion. Among them, the male population is 715.27 million and the female population is 684.78 million, with 30 million more males than females, which means that 30 million males will not be able to find their other half in the future and will become a bachelor population, and this data may continue to grow.

The serious imbalance between men and women will bring about a big social problem, which needs to be solved as soon as possible. So Huang Youguang, a professor at Fudan University's School of Economics and an academician at the Australian Academy of Social Sciences, has proposed a solution, which is to implement a "one wife, many husbands" system. This proposal immediately led to a strong discussion.

At present, most countries around the world are practicing "monogamy", which is the mainstream marriage system in China, Japan and South Korea in Asia, as well as in the more open Western countries such as the United States, Britain and France.

Of course, there are cases of polygamy, such as in Negara, Uganda, Libya and Swaziland. In ancient China, polygamy has always been the norm. For example, Stanley HO, the recently deceased King of Gamblers of Macao, had four wives, but only two of them were actually married, namely, his first wife, Lai Yuen Wah, and his concubine, Lan Qiong Ying, while the third one, Chan Yuen Chun, and the fourth one, Leung On Ki, could not be regarded as wives. The third wife, Chan Yuen Chun, and the fourth, Angela Leung, are not considered wives, because in 1972, Hong Kong and Macau abolished the Qing Law, and then began to implement the "monogamy" system, Chan Yuen Chun and Angela Leung met and gave birth to children after the 1980s.

The "polygamy" system proposed by Prof. Huang Youguang is also practiced in some countries around the world, such as India, Senegal, Egypt, Sudan and so on, and most of these countries have more men than women.

Taking India as an example, there is a serious imbalance in the ratio of men to women in India, and many men are unable to find wives, which has led to frequent rapes in India. In India, the "polygamy" system was introduced to improve this problem.

In fact, in some of China's ethnic minorities, there is also a "monogamy" system, Tibetans, Lhoba, Menba and so on, these people still continue the ancient marriage system.

So, is it feasible to implement the "polygamy" system in China?

First of all, from the ethical and moral point of view is very difficult to accept, both men and women, will not be willing to share their own half and other people, women are not willing to have so many husbands, this is already in the ethical and moral reached a **** knowledge, to suddenly come to change this kind of monogamy, a lifetime of love for one person's concept, it is extremely difficult, but also can not be accepted.

Secondly, "polygamy" does not necessarily solve the problem of the imbalance between men and women, because the patriarchal concept does not change will not help, there is also the problem of the status of women. Especially in rural areas, many will be in the pregnancy through the ultrasound to check whether it is a man or a woman, is a woman do not want, this phenomenon still exists. Only by changing the patriarchal thinking, the gender imbalance will be slowly alleviated.

Therefore, the "polygamy" system is not very feasible and has met with opposition from most people. However, economist Ren Zeping has proposed this solution to the gender imbalance problem: "Prioritize the introduction of young foreign single women to solve China's gender imbalance problem."

This solution is a little bit feasible, for example, women from countries such as Vietnam and Myanmar have married into China's Guangxi and Yunnan regions, but of course, some of them are illegal to buy and sell. There are also European countries, such as Ukraine, that have married into China. However, this is based on the principle of voluntariness, not good to implement from the policy, and the effect is not very big.

However, more and more young people are choosing not to get married nowadays, and the number of single people is as high as 200 million, which is not only 30 million male bachelors, but also a lot of women choose to be single. Therefore, the imbalance between men and women, first of all, or from the concept of change before, "one wife, husband" system is more of a gimmick, not feasible.
