Living in a different time or culture makes you a different person.

Individuality

It is commonly believed that I am who I am because of the choices I have made after considering my own preferences, attitudes, and emotions. The qualities I have chosen are those that best suit my style and personality. However, the world affects us far more than most of us realize.

We have different experiences at different times and in different places. Time and place are defined by specific circumstances, understandings, beliefs, and habits that qualify your experience and influence your thought patterns. For example, different countries have different attitudes towards punctuality, different sensitivities towards intimate distances between people. Differences in diet.

The influence of mass culture

Newspapers, radio, television, and now computers and cell phones. All kinds of advertisements are bombarded. More than 95% of passengers seen on the subway are looking down at their cell phones. And the current big data led machine intelligence, advertising is more accurate. An example of my own, I searched for a certain brand of computer, and from then on, no matter whether it is a browser or social software, as long as you can see the ads, they will appear.

The "learning" of manipulation

Think about whether you've been manipulated. I'm sure we all deny it, and I don't think I've been manipulated. But if you think about why there is consumer psychology, behavioral economics, and so on, you'll understand that these disciplines are more than just academic.

Just now, the mobile company's personnel are still selling me a more advanced package, just to enjoy more phone calls, more traffic at the current price, as long as I say a good word, you can get a discount of 30 yuan per month, usually for the case, but I refused to do it, and I'm not much of a resistor to the temptation of freebies, even if it's redundant, I'd like to have more discounts, but this kind of package is generally not a good idea, and I'm not sure if it's a good idea.
