History of Wuhan
Wuhan was liberated from the three towns on May 16, 1949; in the same year, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang were combined into the city of Wuhan, which was under the jurisdiction of the Central People's Government.
In 1954, Wuhan became the capital city of Hubei Province.
In 1984, the Hannan District of Wuhan was established; in May of the same year, Wuhan was approved by the Central Government of China*** and the State Council as a pilot city for the comprehensive reform of the economic system, and as a planned city.
July 1992, Wuhan was approved by the State Council as a city open to the outside world; on September 12 of the same year, the Ministry of Civil Affairs approved the abolition of Hanyang County, the establishment of Wuhan Caidian District, the district people's government is located in Caidian Town.
In 1993, Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved by the State Council as a state-level development zone.
September 15, 1998, the State Council approved the abolition of Huangpi County, Xinzhou County, the establishment of Wuhan City, Huangpi District, Xinzhou District. By now, Wuhan has 13 administrative districts under its jurisdiction.
