As of 2007, the county has developed and utilized more than 339,000 acres of agricultural land, accounting for 23.6% of the total area; 348,400 acres of forestry land, accounting for 25% of the total area; and 443,800 acres of grassland, accounting for 28.4% of the total area. The county is mainly based on agriculture, mainly growing food. The main food crops include spring wheat, highland barley, broad beans and potatoes. In July 2013, the Central Financial League Working Committee signed an agreement with Hezheng County to help build a village bank and a small loan company, and establish rural areas with banking, insurance and other functions in villages and towns. The financial service point has helped the county’s agricultural support re-loans grow by more than 20 million yuan annually since 2013.
