Can junior high school graduates serve in the military?

Article 12 of the Military Service Law: Male citizens who reach the age of 18 before December 31 of each year shall be conscripted into active service. Those who have not been drafted in that year can still be drafted for active service before turning 22 years old. The recruitment age for graduates from ordinary colleges and universities can be relaxed to twenty-four years old. According to the needs of the military, female citizens may be recruited for active service in accordance with the provisions of the preceding paragraph. Citizens who have reached the age of seventeen but not yet eighteen before December 31 of that year may be recruited to serve in active service based on the needs of the military and their own volition.

Scope of collection targets: young people (including college students) who have graduated from high school (including technical secondary schools, vocational high schools, and technical schools) and above (including college students), aged 17 to 22 years old (January 1, 1996—— Born on December 31, 2001); college graduates with a college degree or above, aged 17 to 24; young people with a junior high school education, aged 18 to 20.

The term “college students” as mentioned in these Measures refers to full-time undergraduates, junior college students (including higher vocational colleges), graduate students, second bachelor’s degree graduates, current students and freshmen, as well as adults. Colleges and universities recruit general undergraduate and junior college (higher vocational) graduates, current students and freshmen (hereinafter referred to as "college students").

Students from the following colleges and universities who are drafted into the army to perform compulsory military service do not receive state funding:

(1) Students who have been exempted from all tuition fees while in school;

(2) Oriented students, commissioned students and national defense students;

(3) Other students who are not required to perform compulsory military service and join the army.

Article 5 All state-funded funds for college students who are recruited to serve in the army will be arranged by the central government.
