Xilinhot, formerly known as Beizi Temple, was named after Beizi Temple, a Lama Temple built in the eighth year of Qianlong (1743). Located on the north bank of Shangdu River, about 20 kilometers east of Dundahaote, Zhenglan Banner, Xilin Gol League, it is the site of an ancient city in Yuan Dynasty. Founded in 1256, it was named Kaipingfu at that time. In the fifth year of Yuan Dynasty (1264), it was officially called Shangdu, also known as Shangjing or Luanjing. Due to the huge scale of this ancient city in the Yuan Dynasty, local people saw many building platforms in the city, so they called it "Zhao Naiman Sumo", which means "108 temple" in Mongolian. Shangdu is the first planned city built by Mongolian rulers. Judging from the existing sites, it inherited the traditional layout and architectural style of Tang, Liao, Song and Jin Dynasties. The overall appearance of some temples and pavilions is completely modeled after the technology before the Yuan Dynasty. For example, as the main building of Miyagi, Da 'an Pavilion was moved to Xichun Pavilion in Bianjing in the Song Dynasty. Shangdu also has unique national architectural features. For example, there is no strict distinction between palaces and government offices in the ancient city of Shangdu, and the layout of various buildings has no certain rules. Surrounding a large area of gardens with city walls as a part of the capital is also a pioneering work from the Yuan Dynasty. Plazas in front of Miyagi are rare in the history of urban architecture in China.
The ancient city of Shangdu consists of outer city, inner city, Miyagi and Guanjiao. The circumference of the outer city is about 8.5 kilometers. It's all made of stone walls, surrounded by trenches, with two doors on each side, including urns and towers. Miyagi is the residence of the Emperor, with halls such as Daming, Yitian and Baoyun, pavilions such as Daan and Yanchun, pavilions such as Lvzhu and Yingzhou, and Chen Zhendian, but now there are only cornerstones. Miyagi City Wall is a flat earth wall, with blue bricks outside and stones inside, with a circumference of about 2 kilometers.
