Yan 'an-Yulin-Erdos high-speed railway project, as a part of one of the "eight verticals and eight horizontals", is not only an important component of the southbound passenger transport corridor in Inner Mongolia, but also the skeleton of the railway network of Hubao-Eyu urban agglomeration. It is a high-standard national railway trunk line with the function of road network channel as the main factor, taking into account the intercity passenger flow along the line.

According to the feasibility study plan, the Yan 'an-Yulin-Ordos high-speed railway line runs through Yan 'an Station, the terminal of Xiyan high-speed railway, and then passes through Baota District of Yan 'an City, Yanchuan County, Qingjian County of Yulin City, Suide County, Mizhi County, Hengshan District, Yuyang District and Shenmu City, and Ejinhoro Banner of Ordos City in turn to the north, and is introduced into Ordos Station.
In the feasibility study recommendation scheme, seven high-speed railway station stations will be newly established, including Yan 'an New District, Yanchuan, Qingjianbei, Suidexi, Mizhibei, Yulin South and Hongjiannao Station, with a new line length of 389.84km, including 336.540km in Shaanxi (79.0km in Yan 'an and 257.54km in Yulin) and 53.300km in Inner Mongolia. The design speed is 350 km/h and the total investment is about 63.8 billion yuan.
Among them, the two schemes for comparison and selection of crossing Shenmu are the scheme of setting up a station in Hongjiannao along Baomao Expressway and the scheme of setting up a station in Shenmu West in the North Ring Mining Area.
