During the Sixteen Kingdoms Period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Huangxian County was subordinate to Donglai County. In the third year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty, Huangxian County belonged to Mouzhou.

In the early Tang Dynasty, Huang County belonged to Donglai County, and then to Dengzhou. Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming, Qing and Huang counties all belong to Dengzhou.
