Shanghai Customs College, formerly known as Shanghai Customs School, was founded in 1953. 1980 in may, with the approval of the State Council, it was upgraded to Shanghai customs college; 1April, 1996, the former State Education Commission approved the college to be renamed as Shanghai Customs College; In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shanghai Customs College was established as a new full-time general institution of higher learning, and the cause of customs higher education opened a new chapter.

The school now has eight colleges (departments): School of Customs and Public Administration, School of Customs and Public Economics, School of Business Administration and Customs Affairs, Department of Customs Law, Department of Foreign Languages Department of Customs, Department of Public Education, School of Marxism and Department of Inspection and Quarantine Technology Exchange.
It has set up eight undergraduate majors in customs management, administrative management, logistics management, international business, taxation, economic statistics, law and English, and two professional degree programs in public administration and taxation, which belong to four disciplines: management, economics, law and literature.
