Huilai County is an ancient town in eastern Guangdong, which belongs to Baiyue in ancient times and Haiyang State (Nan 'ou State) in Xia and Shang Dynasties. The main area of Huilai in Qin and Han Dynasties belongs to Jieyang County, Nanhai County, Guangzhou.
In the sixth year of Xianhe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (33 1 year), Jieyang County was located in Haining County, belonging to Dongguan County, where Huilai was ruled in the west. In the fourth year of Tang Wude (62 1 year), it was merged into Haiyang, belonging to Chaozhou Prefecture. In the third year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (1524), Huilai County was divided into Chaoyang County and Haifeng County, hence the name. After the establishment of the county, it was under the jurisdiction of Chaozhou Prefecture until the end of Qing Dynasty. After the establishment of New China, it belonged to Shantou City.
