Since the discovery of the yellow-bellied pheasant in 198s, Wuyanling has strengthened the protection and breeding, and the number of the yellow-bellied pheasant has increased from the initial dozens to more than 4, which is the highest population density area of the known wild pheasant. Wuyanling has thus become the only species conservation base and artificial breeding base of the yellow-bellied pheasant in China.

The water quality meets the national first-class ground water standard, and it is the birthplace of Feiyun River, the eight major water systems in Zhejiang, and Shanxi Reservoir, the "Wenzhou Water Tank".

Wuyanling was established as a provincial nature reserve in 1975, and was promoted to a national nature reserve in 1994. In 1995, with the approval of the editorial board of Zhejiang Province, Wuyanling National Nature Reserve Administration of Zhejiang Province was established. In recent years, according to the requirements of Scientific Outlook on Development, Wuyanling Nature Reserve has adhered to the working principle of "protecting the established area, strengthening the area with science and technology and prospering the area with tourism", correctly handled the relationship between protection and development, accelerated the construction of eco-tourism projects, and strived to build Wuyanling into a "demonstration protection area, a harmonious protection area and a well-known tourist area". At present, the protection project with a total investment of 12 million yuan has been completed, and the eco-tourism project with a total investment of more than 2 million yuan is also under construction. The nature reserve has successively won the honorary titles of advanced management collective of national nature reserves, the first batch of provincial-level ecological moral education bases, provincial-level ecological environment education demonstration bases, top ten summer resorts in Wenzhou, and ecological moral education bases for minors in Wenzhou.
