[Commemorating 30th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up, Great Changes in Meizhou]

In the past 30 years of reform and opening up, all levels in our city have taken strengthening infrastructure construction as an important task to improve the investment environment and stimulate economic growth. At the same time, they have actively strived to win the policy support from their superiors and the strong support from people from all walks of life at home and abroad, fully mobilized the enthusiasm of the people in the city, raised funds from various sources to invest in infrastructure construction, improved production and living conditions, and achieved remarkable results, gradually alleviating the "bottleneck" constraint that hindered Meizhou's economic development.

Traffic: The natural barrier is becoming a thoroughfare.

Before 1979, the transportation infrastructure in Meizhou was relatively backward, with no civil aviation and wide-gauge railways, few roads and low grades, and most of them were sandy roads, which made it very difficult for people to travel and transport goods. Many bulk goods such as coal, cement and fertilizer were mainly transported by water. The backwardness of transportation infrastructure makes the location disadvantage of Meizhou more obvious, which greatly restricts the economic development.

Since the reform and opening up, especially after the 1990s, the party and government leaders at all levels and the broad masses of the people in Meizhou have worked with one heart and one mind to overcome difficulties and set off a wave of traffic infrastructure construction, and the scale of highway construction has developed rapidly. 199 1 On September 2nd, Meizhou Municipal Government and Provincial Communications Department signed a contract for the reconstruction of 2 19 kilometers of National Roads 205 and 206 (42.6 kilometers of Jiaoling County reconstruction plan was added later). By1June, 1995 10, the reconstruction project of 206 national highway from Niuaishi in Pingyuan to Bachi 7.6 km was completed, and the reconstruction task of 258.9 km of two national highways was basically completed. The full-length 1 180.9 km 16 provincial roads have also been reformed on a large scale, and remarkable achievements have been made. At the same time, county, township and village roads have made great progress every year, and the roads from towns to administrative villages in the city have basically achieved hard cement bottoming, and the roads in nature villages with more than 300 people have been built for more than 1000 kilometers. The "zero" breakthrough was achieved for the first-class highway, and the city basically realized the "1 hour traffic circle" from the city to the county (city), and the total highway mileage, highway density and rural highway construction progress ranked first in the mountainous city of the province.

After the reconstruction of national highways 205 and 206 was completed, the construction of Meijie Expressway and Meihe Expressway started one after another. By the end of 2007, Meizhou had successively built four expressways, including Meijie, Meihe, Xihuan and Tianshan, with a total mileage of 228 kilometers. At present, a new highway network with expressways and national highways as the main trunk, provincial highways as the branch trunk and county and township highways as the thread has basically taken shape in Meizhou. Through the highway network extending in all directions, Meizhou can not only lead directly to the provincial capital, coastal cities and surrounding areas, but also go deep into the hinterland of mountain villages, bidding farewell to the history of it is hard to go.

199 1 In May, the construction of Guangmeishan Railway was officially started. In July,195, the whole line was paved. By February, freight and passenger transportation were opened one after another. 1994, Meizhou section of Meikan Railway was officially started and put into use in September 2005. At this point, Meizhou Railway has realized the link between the east and the west, which has completely changed the situation that traffic restricts economic development.

1 September, 9871day, Meizhou airport was officially opened to traffic, and four routes were opened to Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Xiamen, and now the routes from Meizhou to Guangzhou and Meizhou to Hong Kong are reserved.

With the efforts of many parties, the waterway regulation and port construction projects in the shallow sections of Meijiang River and Hanjiang River have also been successfully completed. At this point, a complete, well-connected, high-standard and high-level three-dimensional transportation network has been formed, and Meizhou's social and economic development has embarked on the "fast lane".

Urban construction: the modern atmosphere is coming.

In the past 30 years of reform and opening up, the urban construction in Meizhou has attracted special attention. Meizhou City aims to build a regional central city in eastern Guangdong and a tourist capital in the world, adjust and improve the overall control plan of urban construction, speed up the construction of municipal facilities, and gradually improve various functions of the city.

Since the 1990s, our city has gradually implemented the reconstruction of Jiangbei, the construction of Jiangnan, the development of new Chengjiang New City and the development project of Dongshan. After the purification, greening, beautification and lighting of the city, the appearance of the city has changed greatly, and it has been awarded the title of national historical and cultural city and national health city. In 2005, Meizhou's activity of building a national excellent tourist city passed the national inspection and acceptance. The construction of "one river and two banks" system engineering has improved Meizhou's urban flood control and waterlogging control ability, promoted urban construction, broadened urban area, beautified urban areas, radiated and promoted dike construction in cities and towns of all counties (cities, districts) in the city, and was awarded the National Model Award for Human Settlements and the United Nations Excellent Model Award for Human Settlements.

Now, the improvement project of human settlements in the eastern part of Meizhou Jiangnan with a total investment of 10 billion yuan has begun again. The overall planning of the project takes three years to demolish and transform the 3.06 square kilometers area in the east of Jiangnan (starting from the south of Dongshan Bridge in the north, reaching Ma 'anshan in the south, starting from the west bank of Meijiang River in the east, and reaching Yihua Road, Sunshine Garden, Kangju Road and Jin Yan Avenue in the west) for overall development. The implementation of this project can not only fundamentally improve the living conditions of more than 2,000 households 1 10,000 people in the eastern part of the Yangtze River, but also optimize the livable and suitable environment of Meicheng as a whole. At the same time, Meizhou city is stepping up efforts to create a national health city and a national garden city, and the taste of Meizhou city is being upgraded as never before.

Since last year, the municipal party committee and the municipal government have attached great importance to solving the problem of waterlogging in urban areas, and specially invested/kloc-0.50 billion yuan to improve and transform the existing drainage system in Meicheng. The project was officially started in July, 2007, and the drainage capacity of Meicheng was obviously improved by expanding the capacity of Meicheng electric drainage station and cleaning and dredging sewers. At present, most of the project has been completed and has played a preliminary role. During the flood season in May and June this year, there was no major waterlogging in Meicheng.

In 2007, the urban area of Meizhou has increased to 45 square kilometers, about 9 times that of 1979, and the urban population has grown to 379,900. At present, the urban greening rate in Meicheng is 34.6%, and the per capita public green area is 9.63 square meters. Now Meizhou City has developed into a medium-sized city with a modern atmosphere.

At the same time, the city's energy construction and farmland water conservancy construction have been continuously promoted, and the reinforcement of key dikes, reservoirs and mountain ponds is progressing smoothly. A number of flood control and water conservancy projects have been built, and the ability of agriculture to resist natural disasters has been further enhanced. Since 1987, the generator capacity in Meizhou has increased by 2.063 million kilowatts, and in 2007, the generator capacity reached 23 1.77 million kilowatts, and the supporting construction of major power grids and rural power grid reconstruction projects have been completed.

Communication: Mobile phones and Internet cover urban and rural areas.

In the early days of reform and opening-up, Meizhou postal service was poorly equipped and mainly operated by hand. According to relevant records, in 1979, the main equipment of the postal business hall in the whole city was as follows: 385 scales, 34 iron cabinets and safes 1 piece, 3 parcel receiving and sending machines, 9 automatic ticket vending machines, mail elevators1piece and 984 mailboxes.

Since the reform and opening up, the pace of development of postal industry has been accelerating and has been greatly developed. 1998, Meizhou Post Office successfully completed the separation of posts and telecommunications, the separation of wireless paging and mobile communication, and established post offices and telecommunications bureaus at all levels respectively.

Driven by the strong demand for social telecommunications services, the telecommunications industry in our city has extensively opened up social financing channels, accelerated investment and construction, and took the lead in realizing urban and rural telephone program control in mountainous cities throughout the province. The city's mobile communication and Internet have developed rapidly, with outlets all over urban and rural areas. In 2007, the total post and telecommunications business increased from18.47 million yuan in 1987 to1675 million yuan in 2007, an increase of 89 times. The total capacity of telephone exchanges in the city increased from 42,400 in 1990 to 15 1.22 million in 2007, an increase of 35 times. The number of fixed telephones increased from 27,200 in 1987 to 934,900 in 2007, an increase of 34.4 times; Mobile phones have developed rapidly from scratch. In 2007, there were152.4170,000 households in the whole city.
