Tongzhou District is located in the southeast of Beijing, at the northern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and at the eastern end of the Beijing Chang 'an Avenue extension line. It is the northern starting point of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the east gate of the capital Beijing.
The geographical coordinates of Tongzhou District are 39 36 ′ to 40 02 ′ north latitude and116 32 ′ to116 56 ′ east longitude. It is 36.5 kilometers wide from east to west and 48 kilometers long from north to south, covering an area of 906 square kilometers. It borders Chaoyang District and Daxing District in the west.

Tongzhou District is adjacent to the Beijing Central Business District (CBD), with the international trade center 13km to the west, the Capital Airport 16km to the north and tanggu port 100km to the east. Known as "one Beijing, two bathrooms and three Tongzhou", it is the core hub of the Bohai Economic Circle.
Tongzhou District governs 1 1 street, 1 town,1ethnic townships: Zhongcang Street, Xinhua Street, beiyuan street, Yuqiao Street, Lvyuan Street, Yun Tong Street, Wenjing Street, Jiukeshu Street, Linheli Street, Yangzhuang Street, Lu Yi Street and Yongshun Town. The district government is located in Lvyuan Street.
