Shanghai Customs College is a full-time general institution of higher learning approved by the Ministry of Education and directly under the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China. It is a pilot unit to train graduate students for bachelor's degree-granting units and a national project to train talents with special needs. The first batch was selected into the first-class undergraduate construction leading plan of Shanghai universities and the first-class postgraduate education leading plan of Shanghai universities.
China Customs higher education began in 1908, when the Qing government established the Tax School in Beijing (later renamed the Tax School and moved to Shanghai). It is one of the earliest schools in the world to engage in customs higher vocational education. Shanghai Customs College was formerly known as Shanghai Customs School, which was established in 1953. 1980 was approved by the State Council and upgraded to Shanghai Customs College; 1996 changed its name to Shanghai Customs College. In March 2007, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Shanghai Customs College on the basis of Shanghai Customs College.
