Tracing the roots
The surname Zhai comes from the surname Wei, and is named after the country. Shi. After the Yellow Emperor, there was a tribe of Di people surnamed Wei. During the Spring and Autumn Period, they lived among the Central Plains states of Qi, Lu, Jin, Wei, Song, etc., and were called the Zhai state. Later, it was destroyed by the Jin State, and its descendants took the name of the original country and called them Zhai.

In the early days, they were active in the northern region with the Central Plains as the core. During the Han and Tang Dynasties, it had expanded to Shaanxi, Sichuan, Anhui, Jiangxi and other places, and the famous Zhai family was formed in Nanyang County in southwest Henan (now Nanyang City, Henan Province). After the Song Dynasty, it was distributed in Beijing, Henan, Shandong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong and other places. Today it is mainly distributed in Xuchang, Xiuwu and Minquan in Henan, Linyi and Pingyin in Shandong, Wenshui in Shanxi, Jize and Wen'an in Hebei, and Liaoning Liaoyang, Huizhou, Guangdong and other places.

Zhai Huang: Minister of Wei during the Warring States Period. Born into a powerful family, he was once the Prime Minister of the Wei State. He recommended Wu Qi, Le Yang, Ximen Bao and others to be the Marquis of Wei Wen. During the reign of King Xiang of Wei, he wanted to unite Qi and Qin to fight against Chu, but he had a conflict with Loubi. He once wanted to kill Zhang Yi, but failed because of Zhang Yi's plan.
Zhai Rang: Leader of the Wagang Army, a peasant uprising army in the late Sui Dynasty. A native of Weicheng, Dongjun (now Changyuan, Henan Province), he fled to Wagang for committing a capital crime and gathered a crowd to revolt. He was the early leader of the Wagang Army. Later, Zhai made Li Mi the virtuous man, and promoted Li Mi to be Duke of Wei. He appointed himself Situ and granted the title of Duke of Dongjun. He was soon murdered by Li Mi.
Zhai Ruwen: Official, calligrapher and painter in the Song Dynasty. A native of Danyang (now part of Jiangsu Province), he was born as a Jinshi and served successively as secretary Lang and political advisor. He has an outstanding demeanor, loves ancient elegance, and is good at seal script and zi. He is good at painting figures and landscapes.
Zhai Fengzhu: Minister in the early Qing Dynasty. Wen Xi was born in Shanxi Province. He was a Jinshi during the Shunzhi period. He was famous for his knowledge and practice of law. He was promoted to the Chief Envoy of Fujian.
Zhai Hao: Scholar of the Qing Dynasty. A native of Renhe, Zhejiang Province (today's Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province), he was a Jinshi during the Qianlong period and was an official professor in Jinhua and Quzhou schools. Gong poetry is also good at textual research. There are "Hushan Notes", "Four Books Examination", "Genshan Magazine" and so on.
