In March last year, the Office of the Working Committee on Ageing of XX City, together with the Working Committee of the Municipal Government and the Civil Affairs Bureau, carried out activities to help centenarians in the party organizations of the municipal government, and achieved remarkable results. We will now inform all leading comrades who care about and support the cause and work of aging, as well as friends from all walks of life.
First, the background and motivation of helping centenarians in pairs.
There are more than 70 centenarians in our city, 80% of whom live in rural areas and 30% in remote mountainous areas. Their tenacious vitality is shocking, but their basic life and medical and health conditions are mostly miserable. How to help them improve their living conditions and how to attract more people to pay attention to and care for the elderly are issues that we have been thinking about in recent years.
At the beginning of last year, in the educational activities of maintaining the advanced nature of Communist party member carried out by municipal authorities, we put forward a scheme of pairing to help centenarians in combination with the reality of aging work.
Second, carry out activities to help centenarians in pairs
On February 23rd, the Municipal Office for Ageing issued the Notice on Caring for and Helping Centenarians, and together with the comrades of the county (district) offices for ageing, the government working committee and the civil affairs bureau, went deep into the homes of more than 70 centenarians to visit and express condolences, and collected and sorted out the basic information of each elderly person's living conditions, living habits, difficulties and projects in need of help, and announced it to the public on XX. Com aims at helping activities. On March 2 1 day, the Municipal Office for Ageing, the Municipal Organs Working Committee and the Civil Affairs Bureau jointly issued the Notice on Launching Pairing Activities to Help Centenarians [2005] No.6. So far, pairing activities to help centenarians have been fully carried out in the party organizations of municipal organs.
Up to now, there have been 15 units or party organizations such as the Propaganda Department of the Municipal Party Committee, CPPCC, Municipal Bureau of Land and Resources, 4 individuals from the Municipal Tobacco Branch, and 4 business owners voluntarily signed up to form a helping pair with 23 centenarians. They went deep into remote rural areas with cash, clothes, nutrition and so on. And visited the centenarians. Some support centenarians' families to develop aquaculture, some plant trees in front of centenarians' homes, some give centenarians monthly living allowances and medical expenses, and some give centenarians wheelchairs and hearing AIDS. The management offices and branches of party member and Nanshoushan Cemetery formed a helping pair with Jin Cheng, a centenarian of Miao nationality in Lin Bao Village, Zhendong Town, xuyong county. They gave him a 25-inch color TV, gave him 100 yuan of living expenses every month, and invested 5,000 yuan to build a new house for the elderly. Their caring action has become a story in the local Miao autonomous village. Ye Lihua, secretary of the Party Committee of the Municipal Tobacco Branch, walked for more than three hours to Fo Yin Town, Hejiang County, and walked into the home of Liu Shengying, a centenarian in Baiaogou Village. Seeing the old man wearing thin clothes, Ye Lihua immediately took off her clothes and put them on, which moved the old man's family and people present to tears.
Among the centenarians living in rural areas, there are 45 households with extremely difficult drinking water for people and livestock. For generations, they have been drinking water from fields, rainwater and self-dug wells, and some have to go far away to get water. The water quality is poor and unsanitary. In July last year, after learning about this situation, Wu Fuzhao, director of the Municipal Bureau of Land and Resources, decided to drill wells, buy and install water supply equipment for these elderly people free of charge, and reached the county and district land and resources bureaus in the form of documents. Here, I am pleased to tell you that these 45 elderly people who have experienced vicissitudes for a hundred years have all drunk safe and hygienic tap water.
Third, the effectiveness of pairing activities to help centenarians.
Since the launch of the activity of helping centenarians in pairs, 53 elderly people have been helped to varying degrees, with a helping rate of 88%. According to a preliminary estimate, it is equivalent to helping centenarians about 80,000 yuan. Centenarians and their descendants feel the warmth of the party and government and the true feelings of a harmonious society from caring actions.
The activity of helping centenarians in pairs in our city is also the first in China. China Annual Report on Aging, Sichuan Evening News, Sichuan Aging, Sichuan Aging Network, XX Daily, XX People's Broadcasting Station, XX TV Station, XX Radio and Television News, XX Telephone Information News and other media and websites have all reported, and XX Evening News has been launched. According to incomplete statistics, over the past nine months, the total number of media reports has reached more than 60 times, which has played a very good role in promoting the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation to respect and help the elderly and creating a social atmosphere in which the whole society cares for and helps the elderly. Become a highlight of building a harmonious XX.
Every family has a hard experience, and everyone will get old. Respecting and helping the elderly is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, and it is the obligation of every citizen to care for and take good care of the elderly. The elderly account for 13% of the city's total population, which is a huge social group and an important part of a harmonious society. Helping the elderly with special difficulties and building a society for all ages is one of the main contents of building a harmonious society. On behalf of more than 70 centenarians and their families, and 600,000 elderly people in the city, I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to the Municipal Bureau of Land and Resources, which has helped centenarians solve their drinking water problems, and to all the units, individuals and social forces that have volunteered to help centenarians!
