Nanjing Maritime Court is 1 1 the first maritime court in China, and its jurisdiction covers the coastal waters of Jiangsu and the sea-connected waters of the Yangtze River waterway. The Nanjing Maritime Court consists of a comprehensive office, a political department (supervision room), a filing court (litigation service center, trial supervision court), a maritime court, a maritime court, an executive board (executive command center), a judicial police detachment, and an organ party committee. In order to facilitate the litigation of the parties, dispatch courts have been set up in Lianyungang, Nantong, Taizhou and Suzhou within their respective jurisdictions.
The jurisdiction of Nanjing Maritime Court covers the extended sea area from the junction of Jiangsu Province and Shandong Province to the junction of Jiangsu Province and Shanghai, the main and branch waters of the Yangtze River from the junction of Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province to Liuhekou, Jiangsu Province, and the ports and navigable waters within the administrative area of Jiangsu Province.
According to the Provisions of the Supreme People's Court on the Scope of Cases Accepted by Maritime Courts, the Nanjing Maritime Court accepts the following cases of first instance: maritime tort disputes, maritime contract disputes, disputes related to the development and utilization of marine and navigable waters and environmental protection, other maritime disputes, maritime administrative cases and maritime special procedures, and so on. If a party refuses to accept the judgment or ruling made by the Nanjing Maritime Court and appeals, it shall be tried by the Higher People's Court of Jiangsu Province.

Article 4 The maritime court shall accept the lawsuits brought by the parties concerned due to maritime tort disputes, maritime contract disputes and other maritime disputes stipulated by law.
Article 7 The following maritime litigation shall be under the exclusive jurisdiction of the maritime court as stipulated in this Article:
(1) The lawsuit brought by the coastal port operation dispute shall be under the jurisdiction of the maritime court where the port is located;
(2) A lawsuit brought by a ship that discharges, leaks, dumps oil or other harmful substances, produces or operates at sea, or dismantles or repairs a ship shall be under the jurisdiction of the maritime court where the pollution occurred, where the damage resulted, or where pollution prevention measures were taken;
(3) Lawsuits arising from disputes over contracts for marine exploration and development performed within the territory of the People's Republic of China and the sea areas under its jurisdiction shall be under the jurisdiction of the maritime court in the place where the contracts are performed.
