According to reliable overseas news, Tesla is preparing to make new moves. On May 7, local time in the United States, Tesla submitted a document to the American Stock Exchange to use 4 billion yuan to expand its Shanghai factory.
This funding comes from the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. Tesla, as a lender, can draw funds from an unsecured revolving loan totaling 4 billion yuan or the equivalent in U.S. dollars at any time. Tesla said these loans were only used for expenses related to the construction and production of the Shanghai factory.
When Tesla was building a factory in Shanghai, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Pudong Development Bank had provided Tesla with 14.75 billion. In January, Tesla's Shanghai factory officially launched the Model Y production project, and the second phase of the project is also stepping up its expansion. Tesla is in great need of flexible funds to invest in production and construction. It is expected that the second phase of the factory will be completed ahead of schedule, and the total area of ??the Shanghai factory will be doubled in the future, so the domestic Model Y will roll off the production line ahead of schedule.
Why is Tesla so anxious to invest in the construction of the second phase of the factory? In fact, it is still related to the epidemic and the slow progress of overseas factory construction. The recent failure of the Shanghai factory to start normal operations is related to the shortage of overseas parts supply. In addition, the resumption of work in American factories has been rejected by local officials. Therefore, if Tesla wants to localize the production of Model 3 and even export it to other countries in the future, it is urgent to speed up the construction of the second phase of the Shanghai factory. At present, the localization rate of Tesla's Shanghai factory parts is only slightly above 30%. If Tesla's localization rate is further reduced, the price of Model 3 is expected to drop to about 200,000 yuan in the future.
