My husband owes a bank loan, and I divorced him. The divorce agreement clearly stated that he would pay back the money. What joint liability will I have, and will I repay it?
If he paid it back, the bank wouldn't ask you to pay it back. If he doesn't pay back the money, you will be jointly and severally liable for repayment, and the bank will ask you to bear the responsibility for repayment. This is a joint debt of husband and wife. Unless you can prove that you don't know. This agreement can only coordinate the relationship between the two of you, not against a third person.
