Construction process

According to Deputy Magistrate Zeng, who is in charge of transportation in the county, before the bridge was built, people in Hengshan could only cross the river by boat, which severely restricted the development of the county's economy. In 1993, the transportation department decided to build the Hengshan Xiangjiang Bridge. Hengshan County was very enthusiastic and raised 15.822 million yuan. In addition to bank loans, the money also came from more than 1.94 million yuan in interest-free loans provided by the masses, involving 1. Thousands of people. The Provincial Department of Transportation promised that 10.41 million yuan of the loan will be repaid through the bridge toll station, and the remaining more than 5 million yuan will have to be repaid by Hengshan County itself. It is understood that the total loan amount for the construction of Hengshan Bridge is 77.31 million, and these loans will be repaid by the Hengshan Bridge Toll Station. In 2009, the toll station of Hengshan Xiangjiang Bridge was demolished.
Quality Inspection
On December 6, 2001, the Xiangjiang River Bridge in Hengshan, Hunan Province was fully closed for inspection from 1 am to 6 pm. Cracks in the bridge were the direct cause of the closure. Because the news of the closure of the bridge came relatively suddenly, all vehicles traveling in and out of Hengshan and Hengdong via National Highway 107 and the Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway need to take a detour. Most of the out-of-town vehicles and some local drivers did not know about it in advance, so a large number of vehicles were stranded at both ends of the bridge waiting to pass. At nearly noon, more than a dozen experts from the Department of Bridge and Structural Engineering of Changsha Transportation College were still busy on the bridge, making detailed measurements of various data on the bridge's deflection, dynamic and static loads. Zhou Gong, former deputy director of the Hengshan Bridge Construction Leading Group Office, said that cracks began to appear shortly after the bridge was opened to traffic at the end of 1995. Since the diaphragm is located inside the box girder of the main structure of the bridge, it has attracted great attention from the owner. Last year, experts were specially invited from Xiangtan Institute of Technology to conduct an inspection. After repeated demonstrations, the experts believed that the circular hole with a diameter of 1.2 meters was too large, so they recommended filling it with steel pipes to reduce it to 80 centimeters. The remaining cracks were filled with epoxy resin. After all the repair work was completed, for the sake of caution, it was decided to conduct a comprehensive "physical examination" of the bridge.
