I often think, what is writing to me? Is it boring or interesting? Is it extremely meaningful or futile? Is it utilitarian or not? Especially after the publication of the book Collecting Sunshine, I have been questioning myself for some time. Why on earth should I write?
My life experience has made me more aware of the non-utilitarian significance of writing. I have been dumped since I was a child, and I am crazy and persistent about many beautiful things. But in the process of growing up, many hobbies have faded with the passage of time, leaving only some fragments of memory. However, only writing is perfectly preserved, persisted, willing to spend spare time for it, willing to sit on the cold bench, willing to enjoy loneliness, and has almost become a part of me and a beloved necklace around my neck. Because writing has put some ugly real worlds in colorful splendor.
For example, is our real world really as beautiful as the poet described? The writer can leave a leisure to explain why it is beautiful when it rains, the courtyard is deep, the river of no return is beautiful, and the cattle and sheep are low when the wind blows. Taking law as an undergraduate major is an important event in your life.
"Why study law" is a very personal question, and I think you may give different answers. However, to answer any question, we must start with analysis. "Why learn the law" can be explained from two aspects, namely, the reason and the purpose of learning the law.
In addition, asking you this question is not the same as asking a litigant in a lawsuit, or asking a reader who is leafing through books on law popularization in a bookstore. The so-called "studying law", for you, its exact meaning is "taking law as a major and spending four years studying undergraduate".
The reason for studying law is that for some students, it is a rational choice in the college entrance examination and volunteering. You are lucky. For other students, they just obey the fate, which is inevitable. Of course, the real gap between these two types of students is far from what it seems, because most candidates don't know their majors when they apply for universities. Therefore, even those students who choose the law major rationally, when they really start their professional study, most of them find that they have misunderstood the law major before.
No matter why you study law, there is an old saying that "you will be safe when you come." Now that you have learned the law, you should think about your goals and try to learn the law well.
I have asked many people, what is the purpose of studying law? The answers can be roughly divided into two categories: realism and idealism. The common realistic answer is that studying law is to make money and live a good life in the future. (Laughter)
Can studying law achieve this goal? Frankly speaking, the present situation is not optimistic. You must know that the employment situation of law major is grim, and it ranks among the best in all majors. (Laughter)
At one time, the main way for law students to earn money was to be lawyers. However, with the strengthening of stability and the spread of corruption in China, the rule of law seems to have deteriorated, and the demand for the legal market has been sluggish for a long time. Generally speaking, the life of a lawyer is not easy. If you want to find a stable job, law students have little advantage in the recruitment of state organs and institutions, and the competition is cruel.
In addition, China, as a civil law country, has two important differences from the United States: first, legal education is undergraduate education, focusing on basic education rather than vocational training; Secondly, law education requires students to have a systematic understanding of the structure of the whole legal system, that is, law is divided into two major fields, public law and private law, which respectively contain several sub-disciplines, and these disciplines form various courses that need to be studied; It is not to let students start with cases, but to cultivate their ability to solve practical problems.
The differences in educational methods lead to different abilities of graduates: American law graduates are generally competent for ordinary legal work; By the time of graduation, law students in the civil law system have only learned the basic principles and main rules of the General Law and most important departmental laws, but their ability to deal with practical legal problems is very limited. Law graduates from the civil law system must receive some further training if they want to engage in the legal profession. You may find that marriage law and inheritance law are easy to learn, but commercial law is difficult to learn. The reason is that people know more about social life fields such as marriage, family and inheritance, but are not familiar with business fields.
In order to understand the rules, we must be familiar with the social life in related fields. After four years of study, law graduates will generally have a very good understanding and understanding of social life, at least in breadth. If a job needs "sages", law graduates are usually the right candidates.
At the same time, law graduates can easily become compound talents, and they can develop well in different professional fields by virtue of their good values and thinking ability (which is the core of law major learning).
Why study law? Realists associate it with personal life and work, while idealists associate it with "self-realization" and the realization of their own life value.
