From 65438 to 0997, Mao Wei led the establishment of China Internet Information Center (CNNIC) and served as its first director. After 10 years, CN domain name has developed into a mainstream domain name, and has successively launched localized address services such as Chinese domain name, general website and wireless website, and organized a national Internet statistical survey, which has made important contributions to the development of basic Internet resources in China.

As a scientific and technical personnel and administrator, Mao Wei achieved excellent results and was hired as a researcher and doctoral supervisor of China Academy of Sciences. In addition, Mao Wei served as deputy chief engineer of computer network information center and chief scientist of China Internet Information Center. He is also the author of two international Internet standards.
