According to the complexity of business and the dependence on outlets, banking business can be divided into two parts: one part is traditional business, including general loans, simple foreign exchange transactions, trade financing and so on. , mainly supported by a large number of branch outlets and business volume. In addition, there are derivatives, structured financing, leasing, introducing strategic investors, mergers and acquisitions, listing and other complex businesses, which are not very dependent on branch outlets, but high-tech and high-profit business areas.
According to the balance sheet, the bank's business can be roughly divided into three categories, namely, asset business, liability business and intermediary business.
1, asset business. It mainly includes loan business, discount business, investment business and interbank lending business. Refers to the activities of commercial banks to absorb funds and earn interest income or investment income. It should be pointed out that the central bank sometimes issues documents to reduce the deposit reserve ratio, that is, to reduce the amount of funds deposited by commercial banks in the central bank and increase the amount of working capital of commercial banks.
2. Responsible enterprises. It mainly includes deposit (savings) business, interbank lending and bond issuance business, which refers to the behavior of commercial banks borrowing funds with the right to use by virtue of financial licenses. What needs to be pointed out here is that the central bank sometimes issues documents to reduce the rediscount/re-mortgage interest rate, which means that the central bank tries to reduce the cost of commercial banks borrowing from the central bank, which is beneficial to both banks and borrowing enterprises.
3. Intermediate business. It means that commercial banks use their own network, information, credit or license advantages to provide customers with intermediary or agency roles. They usually implement paid services, mainly including guarantee, agency, consultant, collection and payment, etc. It can also be called non-interest income business, that is, interest and non-interest income can be seen in the annual report. Generally speaking, all fees charged by customers in commercial banks are intermediary business income.
