What does it mean to cut interest rates by basis points?
100 basis point is equivalent to 1%, and one basis point is 0.0 1%. Because the percentage number is too small to write, a new word called base point has evolved. At the same time, because the interest rate often changes in the range of a few tenths of a percentage point, it is more intuitive to express it by the basis point. Take deposits and withdrawals as an example. The current interest rate is 4%.
