How to deal with Nigerian customers
1. There are many black companies in Nigeria, and most of them have extremely poor office conditions. Some companies have offices only a few square meters, but there is only a desk, a chair and a telephone in the room. Some people even work in modified containers, so it is generally difficult to tell who is a liar and who is not. 1997 One of my Nigerian customers came to China to buy goods from our factory. After inspecting our enterprise, he bought eight containers of goods at a time. This customer informed him in China that the Nigerian company immediately paid all the money for our T/T, and we also sent the goods to him as required after receiving all the money. When I visited his company in Nigeria, I found that the office he rented was only six square meters, and the conditions were unimaginable. If I had visited his office in Lagos in advance, my Chongqing friend Mr. Zhou would have known a big client. This Nigerian company has an office building in Victoria Island, which is very imposing. I once drove to this company with Mr. Zhou. After discussion, the customer ordered 3000 motorcycles from Mr. Zhou and paid a serious visit to Mr. Zhou's company in China. Mr. Zhou trusts this company very much and is glad to have a long-term partner. During this period, the Nigerian company borrowed $80,000 from Mr. Zhou on the grounds of temporary financial difficulties in its Guangzhou office, and said that it would pay off the loan when making telegraphic transfer payment for Mr. Zhou's company. When Mr. Zhou met their requirements, the company disappeared and no one could be found. The above examples show that it is difficult for us to ask our friends who is a liar. In Nigeria, this kind of inquiry is very difficult, and it is impossible to confirm who is a liar only by one or two phone calls. Moreover, this kind of inquiry may also have negative effects. Customers with really good credit may not necessarily do it with you when they know that they have been inquired. They will find another channel, and it will also make you lose the opportunity.

Second, there are many liars in Nigeria, which is a reality, but it is unfair to say that Nigerians are all liars. Just go to Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria's largest port, and see if all the thousands of containers discharged to the dock every day are fraudulent. In other words, Nigeria is a big market. The key is to strictly abide by the rules of the game according to the characteristics of Nigeria when doing business with Nigerians. The development prospect of going to Nigeria is very broad.

Third, things to pay attention to when doing business with Nigerians.

(1) Don't make the D/P (collection) clause, because some banks in Nigeria may collude with customers and place orders when customers haven't paid, which will cause losses to our enterprise.

(2) The letter of credit issued by any bank in Nigeria entrusted by the customer must be confirmed by a third-country bank (and confirmed by London Bank, Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank, etc.). ), unconfirmed letters of credit will not be accepted.

(3) Don't be too enthusiastic about Nigerian customers coming to China. Generally, they have to bear all their expenses in China, and at the same time politely refuse their requests for high-grade goods and borrowing money. Don't worry about business failure. As long as the goods you sell him are profitable, your business can be done.

(4) Some customers think that Nigerian banks can't wire large amounts of foreign exchange, and do everything possible to ask you to do D/P terms. Don't promise, there are no restrictions on the remittance of large foreign exchange outside Nigeria.

(5) When the customer only pays T/T part of the payment and asks you to deliver the goods, you must pay attention that when you fax this bill of lading to the customer after delivery, you should black out the bill of lading number and container number, because in Nigeria, the customs and customers collude to take away the container only by the number on the fax of the bill of lading.

In short, when we deal with Nigeria, as long as we have a good grasp of all aspects of the plot, we will not be cheated.
