The Korean peninsula was once a country. After World War II, North Korea was established in the northern part of the peninsula and South Korea was established in the southern part of the peninsula. However, both Korea and North Korea consider themselves to have sovereignty over the whole Korean peninsula.

After the founding of New China, China refused to recognize the legitimacy of the Korean government because China was a socialist country and South Korea was a capitalist country, coupled with the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.

So Korea is called Korea, which is Korea.

Contrary to the mainland, Taiwan Province Province and Hongkong call North Korea and South Korea South Korea!

It was not until 1992 that China and South Korea formally established diplomatic relations that the legitimacy of the Korean government was recognized, so South Korea was changed to South Korea.
