Composition of extended database code:

Every bank applying to join the SWIFT organization must work out its own SWIFT address code in advance according to the unified principle of SWIFT organization, and it will take effect after being approved by SWIFT organization.

Bank Identifier Code——BIC) consists of eight or eleven English letters or Arabic numerals that can be automatically interpreted by computer, and is used to clearly distinguish different financial institutions related to financial transactions in SWIFT messages. All member banks of the Association have their own SWIFT codes, namely SWIFT codes.

In wire transfer, the remitting bank can send a payment message according to the SWIFT code of the receiving bank, and then remit the money to the receiving bank. This number is equivalent to the ID number of each bank.

BIC with eleven digits or letters can be divided into four parts: bank code, country code, area code and branch code. Take China Bank Beijing Branch as an example, and its bank identification code is BKCHCNBJ 1 10. Its meaning is BKCH (bank code), CN (country code), BJ (area code),1/kloc-0 (branch code).

(1) bank code: it consists of four English letters, and each bank has only one bank code, which is customized by itself, usually the initials of the bank, and is applicable to all its branches.

(2) Country code: consists of two English letters, which is used to distinguish the country and geographical area where users are located.

(3) Location code: It consists of two digits or two letters other than 0, 1 and is used to distinguish the geographical location of a country, such as time zone, province, state and city.

(4) Branch Code: It consists of three letters or numbers and is used to distinguish branches, organizations or departments of a country. If the BIC of a bank has only eight digits and no branch code, its initial value is set to "XXX".

At the same time, SWIFT has also compiled a code for banks that have not joined the SWIFT organization to replace the full name of the bank in the message according to this rule. All such codes are distinguished from the SWIFT address codes of official SWIFT member banks by adding the letter "BIC" in the last three digits.
