In digital transmission, the number of bit errors is the number of bits of a data stream received on a communication channel, which changes due to noise, interference, distortion or bit synchronization errors.
Transmission error rate refers to the number of error bits before error correction divided by the total number of bits transmitted (including redundant error code). Information ber is the number of decoded bits that are still incorrect after error correction divided by the total number of decoded bits, and information BER is affected by the strength of forward error correction code.
