The college has 1 national key disciplines: comparative literature and world literature; 1 Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education: Urban Culture Research Center; Ministry of Education 1 Talent Training Base: China Language and Literature; 1 National Excellent Course: Comparative Literature and Foreign Literature History Series Course; Two network colleges in Shanghai universities: Urban Culture Network College and Comparative Linguistics Network College: 1 Key research base of humanities and social sciences in Shanghai universities: China Modern Social Research Center; Seven key disciplines in Shanghai: China philology, China ancient literature, China modern history, urban culturology (dominant discipline), China modern social history, overseas Chinese ancient philology, China language and literature; Four key disciplines of Shanghai Education Commission: ancient history of China, modern history of China, applied linguistics, and research on ancient books arrangement; Two highlands of undergraduate education in Shanghai: Chinese language and literature and advertising.

The college has seven departments, namely: Chinese, history, cultural classics, advertising, cultural communication, archival science and sociology; There are 7 research institutes, namely: Ancient Books Arrangement Institute, Literature Research Institute, Language Research Institute, Changjiang Culture Research Institute, Children's Literature Research Institute, Dunhuang Turpan Research Institute and China Creative Industry Research Institute; There are 0/4 research centers, namely: China Cultural Research Center, China Modern Society Research Center, Logic Research Center, China Comfort Women Research Center, Africa Research Center, Song History Research Center, China History Education Research Center, Women's Research Center, China New Advertising Research Center, Community College Development Research Center, Overseas China Ancient Literature Research Center, E-government Resource Research Center, China Aesthetics Research Center and Modern Publishing Research Center. Shanghai University has two electronic schools, namely the School of Urban Culture and the School of Comparative Linguistics. More than 30% graduates of this major can go to graduate school directly, and the rest are employed by government agencies, newspapers, TV stations, magazines and other units.
