19 19 Mr. Shi Dai, the founder of American International Group, founded AIA, the predecessor company of the group, in Shanghai.

192 1 Mr. Shi Dai founded AIA Life Insurance Company in Shanghai.

193 1 Hayes insurance company was established and changed its name to American International Assurance Company Limited on 1948.

1975 Mr. Greenberg, former chairman and CEO of American International Group, visited China for the first time.

1980 American international group set up a representative office in Beijing, which is the first representative office opened by a foreign-funded financial institution in China.

American International Group and People's Insurance Company of China (PICC) jointly established Sino-American Insurance Company, with each party holding 50% of the shares. This is the first joint venture between a foreign insurance institution and PICC.

1990 AIG organized and hosted a large-scale financial services conference in Shanghai to help Zhu Rongji, then mayor of Shanghai, introduce Shanghai's investment opportunities to the international financial community.

1995 American International Group is approved by the People's Bank of China to engage in life insurance and non-life insurance business in Guangzhou.

1996 AIA signed the lease for Building No.1 Zhongshan East Road 17 in the central area of Shanghai Bund for 30 years. This building is the former site of Mr. Stray's insurance company in Shanghai, which is of special significance to American International Group.

With the approval of the People's Bank of China, AIA Shanghai Branch was renamed and formally established.

1998 The headquarters of AIA Shanghai Branch moved back to Zhongshan Dongyi Road on the Bund in Shanghai 17.

1999 American International Group was approved by China Insurance Regulatory Commission to operate life insurance and non-life insurance business in Shenzhen and Foshan. In the same year, AIA Foshan Branch and Shenzhen Branch, as well as AIA Foshan Branch and Shenzhen Branch, officially opened life insurance and non-life insurance businesses respectively.

AIA HKUST Actuarial Center was formally established in Hefei, Anhui.

AIA Innovation Information Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. was established in 2000.

200 1 American International Group was approved by China Insurance Regulatory Commission to set up wholly-owned life insurance branches in Beijing and Suzhou, and set up life insurance branches in Dongguan and Jiangmen respectively.

American International Group officially set up a representative office in Chengdu, Sichuan.

In 2002, AIA branches in Beijing and Suzhou, as well as branches in Dongguan and Jiangmen officially opened.

AIA Consulting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was formally established.

American International Group (Asia) Investment Co., Ltd. set up a representative office in Shanghai.

AIA-Peking University Actuarial Center was formally established in Beijing.

In 2003, American International Group bought 9.9% shares of China People's Property Insurance Co., Ltd. when it was listed in Hongkong, and reached an agreement to jointly develop accident and health insurance products in China.

In 2004, AIG Global Investment Company and Huatai Securities Co., Ltd. were approved by China Securities Regulatory Commission to formally establish AIA Huatai Fund Management Co., Ltd., and were officially allowed to start business in June of the same year.

In 2005, with the approval of China Securities Regulatory Commission, China Ministry of Commerce and State Administration for Industry and Commerce, AIG Global Investment Company increased its shareholding in AIA Huatai Fund Management Co., Ltd. from 33% to 49%.

Swiss AIA Bank Limited was approved by China Banking Regulatory Commission to open a representative office in Shanghai, China. This is the first foreign private bank approved to open a representative office in Shanghai.

With the approval of China Securities Regulatory Commission and State Administration of Foreign Exchange, AIG Global Investment Company has obtained the qualification of Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) and can invest in the domestic stock market.

In 2006, AIA and AIA were approved by China Insurance Regulatory Commission, allowing them to do business in Guangdong Province. AIA is also allowed to do business in Jiangsu Province.

AIA was approved by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission to operate group insurance business through domestic branches.
