ICBC can exchange Japanese yen, but it needs to go to an ICBC with currency exchange business to exchange it. It is illegal to exchange foreign currency in places other than designated foreign exchange banks and legal foreign exchange exchange points.

Domestic convertible foreign currencies mainly include: British pound, Hong Kong dollar, US dollar, Swiss franc, Singapore dollar, Swedish krona, Danish krona, Norwegian krona, Japanese yen, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, euro, Macao dollar, Philippine peso, Thai baht, New Zealand dollar and Korean won. Other foreign currencies are not convertible in our country.

Measures for the Administration of Foreign Exchange for Individuals Article 5 Individuals shall handle relevant foreign exchange business in accordance with the provisions of these Measures. Banks shall handle foreign exchange receipts and payments, settlement and sale of foreign exchange and open foreign exchange accounts for individuals in accordance with the provisions of these Measures, and examine the authenticity of valid identity documents and relevant certification materials submitted by individuals. Remittance agencies and foreign currency exchange agencies (including exchange points) handle personal foreign exchange business for individuals in accordance with the provisions of these Measures.
