The current account convertibility of RMB means that individuals and enterprises in China can freely convert RMB into foreign exchange for payment and settlement in overseas trade, tourism, education, medical care and investment, and can also freely convert foreign exchange into RMB. This free exchange policy was implemented by the China government in order to promote economic exchanges and investment activities at home and abroad and improve the international status of RMB. Since 20 15, RMB has been included in the SDR currency basket of the International Monetary Fund, which shows that RMB has gradually become an international currency.
