Keynote Speech: Challenges and Future of Internationalization
(according to the recording, organize the excerpts)
At present, the external environment is changing very fast, and the challenge of internationalization is obvious. There are fewer and fewer people talking about internationalization and world economic integration abroad, and many people are forced to become nationalists, populists and even racists to some extent intentionally or unintentionally. All these can not help but make people sigh that human beings have made rapid progress in natural exploration, but they are so powerless to human society.
However, we need not worry too much about internationalization. In fact, even without the Sino-US trade dispute and the COVID-19 epidemic, the global industrial chain has been reconstructed and upgraded at a very fast speed, but now this process is further accelerated. China is not a capital exporting country, especially under the current circumstances, it is difficult for China enterprises to "go global" on a large scale, including capital, technology and management. We need to "go global" to obtain certain markets, technologies and raw materials, but to some extent, enterprises should be encouraged to invest in their own countries, especially China, where China has such a huge domestic market and consumption potential.
At present, some concepts are wrong and easily confused. Some people say that China is rich in funds and must "go out" to invest. This statement is misleading. Some people in China may be rich, but many people in China are not. Sometimes we are misled by algorithms. For example, China's GDP (gross domestic product) ranks second in the world, but the concept of "not seeking everything, but seeking where" is somewhat misleading. In fact, our GNP and per capita income still have a lot of room for improvement, and China enterprises have the opportunity and responsibility to contribute to narrowing this gap.
In addition, there are some misleading ideas in the concept of integration with the international community. For example, is the trade surplus better than the deficit? Is RMB depreciation better or appreciation better? Is there a lot of personal savings and a lot of national foreign exchange reserves? Who benefits from the Sino-US trade dispute? Over the past few decades, China has been working hard in internationalization, and the biggest beneficiary of the hard-working job opportunities should be the United States. Imagine that today we exchanged with America. We also have a large foreign debt, trade deficit and global investment. Americans still live in the biggest house in the world, drive the biggest car, consume the most energy and the best food.
Then we thought, the world is so chaotic, do we still need internationalization? There is no need to worry about this. At present, the main dispute of internationalization is a trade dispute initiated by some countries for some political purposes, but enterprises have not opposed internationalization and globalization. Internationalization is a natural process of the development of enterprise's own value chain and industrial chain. Industrialization is to improve efficiency, make full use of resources and let people live a better life. Therefore, the current "anti-globalization" is only temporary. Internationalization and industrial chain will not simply disappear, nor can they be closed separately. Humans will not be so stupid, the economy will not shrink so much, and enterprises will not be so incompetent. The real power of internationalization comes from enterprises. Recently, the 20th factory laid out by Coca-Cola in China started construction in Guizhou, and many enterprises such as Nike, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks and ADM Food Company settled in. All these companies have more than 50% of their business outside the United States. We should believe in the power of business, and China has the greatest development potential.
Before the crisis comes, human beings tend to ignore it, and after the crisis, they will worry too much. From the beginning, they didn't know much about the situation, but later, they felt overly afraid. This is the case to a large extent all over the world at present. The crisis destroyed what should have been destroyed. The COVID-19 epidemic has accelerated the emergence and development of digitalization, telecommunications and artificial intelligence. For example, teleconference can significantly improve work efficiency while ensuring work effect.
China's "new development pattern with domestic macro-cycle as the main body and domestic and international dual-cycle promoting each other" is beneficial to people's livelihood. In the future, the achievements of China's internationalization and expanding domestic demand are mainly manifested in improving people's livelihood, aiming at improving people's living standards. What we want to see most in the future is not only the internationalization of enterprises, but the continuous improvement of China's international status. China's language, capital, passport, education and so on are widely used in the world. This process is very long, so we should redouble our efforts.
