In-depth analysis and development trend research report of China banking market in 2007-2008
Summary of report
In 2007, China's banking industry experienced the American subprime mortgage crisis and achieved good results.
The subprime bond crisis broke out in the United States in the first half of 2007. However, due to various reasons, banks in China have not been greatly affected. ICBC now owns a total of $28.4 billion in foreign exchange bonds, of which only $229 million is subordinated debt of the United States. These bonds have a high market rating. By the end of June 2007, China Bank had invested US$ 8.965 billion in US subprime mortgage bonds, accounting for 3.5 1% of the total securities investment of the Group, and its holdings were small, which would not have a significant impact on its performance. China Merchants Bank's investment in American subprime bonds was profitable before the crisis. Bank of Communications, including its overseas branches, has never bought American subprime mortgage bonds. CITIC Bank is also not involved in the US subprime mortgage bond business. It can be said that the subprime mortgage has little influence on China's banking industry.
In the first half of 2007, the performance of listed banks was gratifying, and their profits increased by more than 50% year-on-year. 12 A-share listed banks and H-share listed CCB's semi-annual report in 2007 showed that the assets of listed banks grew rapidly, and the assets of CCB, Bank of Communications and China Merchants Bank exceeded 6 trillion yuan, 2 trillion yuan and 1 trillion yuan respectively.
In a word, we believe that China's banking industry has great potential to improve its profitability in the future. The most important reason is that the economic development of China has brought huge market development space to the banking industry. As far as a single bank is concerned, only by improving its comprehensive competitiveness through reform can it grow and develop in a huge market space.
This report contains detailed and accurate economic operation data, bank operation data and bank operation data collected by the research group through various channels.
