Foreign exchange management originated during the first world war, and then changed from loose to tight with the changes of world economy and politics. After the establishment of the International Monetary Fund, it has been urging member countries to cancel foreign exchange management and restore currency convertibility. At present, major developed countries have basically abolished foreign exchange management, while most developing countries still implement foreign exchange management to varying degrees for the needs of economic development.
