Croatia is located at the junction of Central Europe, Southern Europe and Western Europe, with a narrow and tortuous territory. Its neighbors include Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Croatia faces the Adriatic Sea to the west and Italy across the sea.
Croatia can be roughly divided into four regions:
Slavonia region-located in the northeast of Croatia.
Central Croatia-Located near the capital Zagreb.
Istrad region-located near the Istra Peninsula in the northwest.
Dalmatia region-located in the southwest of Croatia, with Dinara Mountains in the east and winding mountain coastline in the west. There are many islands, peninsulas and ports in this area, which are beneficial to many ports, such as Yeka, Split and Dubrovnik.
Dubrovnik at the southern tip of Dalmatia is divided into an enclave by neum, the inlet of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In order to avoid crossing Bosnia and Herzegovina, a Perjesak Bridge was built between Dubrovnik and the Perjesak Peninsula in Croatia.
Northern and northeastern Croatia belong to the middle reaches of the Danube, with plains and hills. The Danube flows through the easternmost part of the country. The main rivers in this area are sava river and Delaware, which are tributaries of the Danube. Due to the complex terrain, the climate varies from place to place. Coastal areas have Mediterranean climate, mountainous areas have plateau climate characteristics, and northern inland areas have temperate continental climate characteristics.
