Service trade statistics should be composed of two parts: balance of payments service trade statistics and foreign subsidiaries service trade statistics. Service trade statistics provide basic data support for labor revenue and expenditure calculation.

Balance of payments statistics mainly reflect cross-border service trade. FAT statistics reflect all goods and services transactions of foreign subsidiaries in the host country. At present, China has only conducted national balance of payments statistics. On the basis of compiling the balance of payments, the National Bureau of Statistics and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange calculate and publish the national statistical data of international service trade in terms of balance of payments every year.
