This item allows you to select the operating mode of the parallel port. The settings are: SPP, EPP, ECP, ECP+EPP, Normal.
SPP:Standard Parallel Port
EPP:Enhanced Parallel Port
ECP:Extended Performance Port
ECP + EPP:Extended Performance Port + Enhanced Parallel Port
Normal :Normal
Normal SPP (Standard Parallel Port) mode is compatible with all parallel devices and has the slowest speed. ECP (Extended Capabilities Port) uses the DMA protocol to send data and provides symmetric bi-directional communication at a speed of 2.5 Mbit/s. In FIFO (First Input Port) mode, ECP is compatible with all parallel devices and has the slowest speed. With the help of FIFO (First Input First Output), ECP is very beneficial for large data volume devices such as scanners and printers.EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port) provides asymmetric bi-directional communication using the existing parallel port and is better suited for parallel port drives.BIOS also supports both ECP+EPP modes. The BIOS also supports ECP+EPP modes, so if you don't have one of these devices, an IRQ is wasted, so setting the appropriate mode (ECP or EPP) according to the peripheral specification can improve overall speed.
