Fangcheng Harbor is unique in its geographical location and geographic conditions. The harbor is deep, sheltered from the wind, the channel is short and not silted up, the city and the land area is wide and the available shoreline is long. The port is in the center of Southwest China and Southeast Asia, backed by the economic hinterland of Southwest China; West neighboring Vietnam neighboring Guangdong, Qiong, Macao frequency Southeast Asia, Southwest China to Southeast Asia and the world's most convenient sea access. 1983, Fangchenggang was listed by the State Council as open to the outside world after the port, the port's pace of construction continues to accelerate. 1987 since the full-scale production and operation of the port, the port's throughput has been rising year by year. 1998, the throughput exceeded 7 million tons. Fangcheng Port since opening to the outside world since the operation, has been with 80 countries and regions of 230 ports have trade transactions, and opened South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and through Hong Kong to transit the world's container routes, to Hainan's passenger and cargo ro-ro routes have also been opened. At present, it has built a transshipment base for foreign trade exports of grain, fertilizer, cement, ore, coal and chemicals.
In 2004, the city completed nearly 20 million tons of cargo throughput, of which Fangchenggang completed more than 16 million tons. With the commissioning of 200,000-ton pier in Fangchenggang Port and the accelerated pace of construction of 13-17 10,000-ton berths, the port's annual comprehensive throughput capacity is expected to reach 60 million tons in the next five years, and the core competitiveness of the port will be further improved.
