College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, Wuhan University

The College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences of Wuhan University is one of the earliest chemistry schools and departments established in China. Her history can be traced back to 1893 (Guangxu nineteenth year) Hukuang Governor Zhang Zhidong in Hanyang ironworks established chemical school. 1896 chemical school merged into the Hubei self-strengthening school of Gezhimen, later changed to the Department of Chemistry. 1913 National Wuchang Higher Teacher's College was established, set up the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. 1928 the formation of the National University of Wuhan, formally known as the Department of Chemistry of the College of Science and Technology of Wuhan University, Prof. Wang Xingqiong In 1953, when the whole country was restructured, the Department of Chemistry of Hunan University and the Department of Chemistry of Nanchang University were merged into the Department of Chemistry of Wuhan University.

In December 1997, the College of Chemistry of Wuhan University was established on the basis of the Department of Chemistry.

In August 2000, Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, Wuhan University of Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology, and Hubei Medical University merged to establish the new Wuhan University.

In January 2001, the new Wuhan University merged its faculties and departments, and the College of Chemistry and Molecular Science (abbreviated as College of Chemistry) of Wuhan University was established by the relevant professional groups of the four merged universities. Since the establishment of the Department of Chemistry of Wuhan University Since the establishment of the Department of Chemistry of Wuhan University, the famous chemists Prof. Wang Xingqong and Academician Zeng Zhaowang have taught in the Department of Chemistry, which had a great influence on the development of the discipline of chemistry and the construction of the academic style. The College of Chemistry has cultivated a large number of talents in the chemical industry and excellent scientific and technological and business leaders for the country. According to incomplete statistics, there are fifteen academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering who are graduates or teachers of the School of Chemistry, among them: Zeng Zhaowang, Zhuang Changgong, Ji Yufeng, Ke Jun, Peng Shaoyi, Chen Rongti, Cha Quanxun, Wang Fosong, You Xuezeng, Jiang Yuansheng, Qian Baogong, Zhuo Renxi, Zhang Li Na thirteen people are academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Liang Junwu and Zhang Gao Yong are academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The total number of faculty and staff is 188, including 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 66 professors, 41 associate professors, and 75 doctoral supervisors.

The college is a national "211" and "985" key construction unit. It has national key disciplines: Analytical Chemistry; Hubei Province key disciplines: Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry. There are Key Laboratory of Biomedical Polymer Materials of the Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Biomedical Analytical Chemistry of the Ministry of Education, Key Research Center of Organic Silicon Compound Materials of the Ministry of Education, and two key laboratories in Hubei Province: Key Laboratory of Chemical Power Materials and Technology, and Key Laboratory of Organic Polymer Photovoltaic Materials. In 1998 and 1999, the Ministry of Education successively approved the establishment of special professorships in the three disciplines of polymer chemistry and physics, analytical chemistry and electrochemistry in the College of Chemistry.

The School of Chemistry is a doctoral and master's degree-granting program in the first level, covering five second-level disciplines: physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, polymer chemistry and physics, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry; materials chemistry and physics and applied chemistry are doctoral programs; and chemical process is a master's degree-granting program. 1985 saw the establishment of a post-doctoral station of the School of Chemistry, which accepts domestic and foreign post-doctoral researchers.

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry

There are two degree-granting majors for undergraduates: Chemistry (National Basic Science Research and Teaching Talent Cultivation Base) and Applied Chemistry.

There are 10 degree-granting majors for master's degree: Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry and Physics, Chemical Biology, Materials Physics and Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Processing, and Applied Chemistry.

Nine doctoral degree-granting majors: Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry and Physics, Chemical Biology, Materials Physics and Chemistry, Materials Science, and Applied Chemistry.

There are 909 undergraduates enrolled in the School, including: 397 in base classes and 512 in applied chemistry (including chemistry, materials science and technology experimental classes, and chemical biology). There are 696 graduate students in school, including: 275 doctoral students and 421 master's students. There are 12 postdoctoral staff on station. There are 4 foreign students.

We are one of the chemistry specialty points of the National Basic Science Research and Teaching Talent Cultivation Base, which has accumulated richer teaching experience and gradually formed its own advantages and characteristics. The teaching reform of the college's central laboratory has been deepening, introducing the college's scientific research directions and enterprises' production problems into undergraduate experiments, jointly training undergraduates with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and famous foreign universities, opening the laboratory to undergraduates in a comprehensive way, and undergraduates' extensive scientific researches, which have already formed the remarkable characteristics of our undergraduate training.

After years of efforts, our institute has gradually formed and developed a series of research directions with the characteristics of multidisciplinary intersection, and the scientific research projects have been involved in the fields of national defense, energy, materials, environment and life sciences. The research level in the fields of analytical science, chemical energy, polymer biomaterials organic functional materials, thermochemistry, supramolecular chemistry, inorganic new materials, power plant chemistry, etc. is in the forefront of the country, with wide international influence. It has become an influential base for chemistry teaching, scientific research and talent training at home and abroad.
