Hyundai Motor updates \"2025 Strategy\", comprehensively announces future business operation plan

Recently, Hyundai Motor released the latest version of its 2025 Strategy online, fully announcing its future business operation plan.

Hyundai Motor's new "2025 Strategy" is based on three business directions, including smart mobility products, smart mobility services, and hydrogen solutions, of which hydrogen solutions are new this year. Under the guidance of the new "2025 Strategy," Hyundai Motor will focus on the development of four major business areas, including electric vehicles, urban air mobility, autonomous driving technology and hydrogen fuel cell systems.

1/Pillar of the Three Business Directions

In terms of intelligent mobility products and services, Hyundai Motor will use big data as the basis for providing the most optimized automotive products and services, and based on this, will promote the accelerated digital transformation of the industrial value chain, products, business models and other areas. To this end, Hyundai plans to comprehensively enhance its digital power by expanding the scope of application of the virtual R&D program, accurately analyzing market demand and optimizing products, setting up smart factories, and building a non-contact sales and service channel that covers all major regions.

In terms of digitization, Hyundai will apply OTA functions and FoD services to its products. At the same time, highly automated driving functions developed in conjunction with Motional*** will be equipped in products in the future. In addition, it will further utilize vehicle big data to develop various high value-added business models.

In hydrogen energy solutions, Hyundai plans to continuously optimize hydrogen fuel cell system technology, expand the related business scope, and consolidate the Group's leading position in the hydrogen energy ecosystem. It also plans to introduce hydrogen fuel cell systems into a full range of transportation fields such as ships, trains, and urban air travel. To this end, Hyundai Motor will continue to develop hydrogen fuel cell systems with the industry's best durability and efficiency.

Hyundai Motor plans to continue to promote the Group's transformation into an intelligent mobility solution provider through its 2025 Strategy, and steadily push forward the implementation of the new hydrogen energy business.

2/ Focusing on Four Business Areas

Electric Vehicles

Hyundai Motor will launch the IONIQ 5 in 2021 and use this as a starting point to fully expand its lineup of electric-only models. By 2025, Hyundai plans*** to launch more than 12 EV models and drive annual EV sales to 560,000 units, while gaining an 8-10 percent share of the global EV market by 2040. To achieve this goal, Hyundai will develop optimized battery products for different regions, models and applications, and plans to build 20 high-speed charging stations in Korea by 2021, and develop and build highway charging networks with various partners*** in overseas markets.

Urban Air Mobility

Hyundai Motor's urban air mobility business will cover both passenger and cargo transportation, creating a comprehensive product cluster. Hyundai plans to launch a hybrid air cargo drone system in 2026 and an all-electric urban air mobility product in 2028 to optimize the urban transportation system. between 2030 and 2040, Hyundai plans to launch an air mobility product that allows inter-city flights between neighboring cities.

Autonomous Driving Technology

Hyundai is accelerating the development of autonomous driving technology. Starting in 2021, Hyundai will have OTA capabilities on its products, as well as FoD services. With 2022, Hyundai will release models equipped with Level3-level self-driving technology. In addition, Hyundai will strengthen cooperation with global partners to accelerate the commercialization of Level?4 and Level 5 autonomous driving technology.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell System

Hyundai Motor unveiled the exclusive brand "HTWO" for hydrogen fuel cell system. Under the kinetic energy of the HTWO brand, Hyundai is accelerating the development of a new-generation hydrogen fuel cell system, and plans to apply it to a variety of transportation modes such as urban air travel, automobiles, ships and trains. In the initial stage, Hyundai Motor will develop business related to hydrogen fuel cell systems centering on four key markets, including Korea, China, Europe and the United States. In 2030, Hyundai plans to sell 700,000 units of hydrogen fuel cell systems.

3/Financial Targets

In the "2025 Strategy," Hyundai Motor released its latest medium- and long-term financial targets, which are to invest a total of 60.1 trillion won (about 363.5 billion yuan) from 2020 to 2025, achieve an operating margin of 8 percent in the automotive business, and gain a 5 percent share of the global automotive market.
